Tom McManus ’84

Baseball & Basketball

Tom McManus came to McClancy from Our Lady of Hope Parish in Middle Village. He played both basketball and baseball for four years at McClancy while maintaining an 86 grade point average. Tom was inducted into the National Honor Society for his academic success. On the basketball court he, along with two other Hall of Fame members, Joe Franco and Lino Raspanti, helped lead the Crusaders to the CHSAA Final Four in 1983. On the diamond, Tom began his varsity career as a sophomore in 1983. He played with the varsity for three years and culminated his career with an outstanding senior season for which he was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. In addition, he was named to the All-Queens First Team and All-City Second Team.

After graduating, Tom attended Fordham University on scholarship and started in right field for four years. He was named to the East Coast Athletic Conference All Star Team while helping to lead the Division I Rams to conference titles in 1987/1988.

Tom is one of seven brothers and sisters. His brother Terrence, a 1979 McClancy graduate, starred for the school’s track team. Tom works for the New York Police Department. He lives in Bethpage, Long Island with his wife and two sons, Ryan and Thomas.
