Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another school year! Monsignor McClancy High School is holding its Annual Walk-A-Thon on Friday, October 29th. This event is a student-driven fundraiser which supplements our ongoing improvements to the school facilities and benefits every student. In past years we used the money raised to air-condition the cafeteria, new vans, new scoreboards for the gymnasium and upgrades to the Squeri Student Center with couches, tables, chairs, and charging stations. This year we will use the monies raised to upgrade to Apple computers in the Media Center, a TV and a sound system for the cafeteria.

The Jim Michelini Memorial Walkathon honors the memory of 1964 graduate and track star Jim Michelini. Jim was killed in a car accident while in his freshman year at Manhattan College. The goal for the first ten walkathons was to raise money for a new track.

To reach our goal of raising $65,000 we need 100% participation. We are asking each student to participate. Each student is required to secure at least $75 in donations from family and friends for the walk. For your convenience, you can make your donation online at: www.msgrmcclancy.org/donate/

Materials are included with this letter for your child to record and submit their donations no later than October 27th. Donations submitted before Friday, October 8th will be entered in the early bird raffle. Sponsors should be asked to donate a flat amount and not an amount per mile. We will walk 2 miles (6 laps) around the school block. On the day of the Walk-A-Thon, all students report to school at regular time (8:25 a.m.) for attendance in homeroom. Directions will be reviewed. It should take 45 minutes to complete the walk. At the completion of the walk, all students must report back to their homeroom for a final attendance check. Then they will be dismissed for the day.

All prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the Walk-A-Thon.
If you would like to be considered for any prizes the minimum donation is $75.
The top student in the school will receive a $2,500 tuition reduction.
Top Senior (class of 2022) who brings in the most donations will receive a parking spot in the McClancy parking lot.
Top “20″ Students in each grade will have “A Casual Dress Day” for the remainder of the school year (every Friday).
Additional prizes will also be awarded. Please see the attached prize list.

There will be a casual dress code on the day of the Walk-A-Thon. Each student will receive a Walk-A-Thon T- Shirt when they arrive to school. Any student, who is unable to participate in the Walk-A-Thon due to an injury etc., SHOULD still get pledges and participate. Remember, if you cannot walk, we will give you a job that enables you to still collect your pledges. Attendance at school this day is mandatory. Absences will not be excused.

We encourage you to make your donation on our website at www.msgrmcclancy.org/donate/ Students can also bring their returns and the sponsor sheet in a sealed envelope with the students name and grade level written on the envelope to their homeroom or to the main office or to the Office of Advancement. Checks should be made out to Msgr. McClancy High School.

If the school reaches its fundraising goal of $65,000 the students, faculty and staff will receive a day off later in the school year. This is a total team effort as a school community to improve our school. As always, your support is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please call the Office of Advancement at 718-397-9343 or email pcivitano@msgrmcclancy.info
