Stephen J. Squeri ’77 Athletic Complex

Breaking News! Stephen J. Squeri ’77 Athletic Complex Coming Fall 2021

We are pleased to announce that McClancy class of ’77 alumnus Stephen J. Squeri, Chairman and CEO of American Express, has committed to making a generous contribution to our school that will enable us to completely renovate and build out a new athletic complex. Steve is personally donating $2.1 million for this project, the largest individual donation in our school’s history. This is another example of his longstanding personal and financial support for our school, having served on our Board for over 10 years, personally funding the renovations of our student center and supporting many families in our community during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our new athletic facility will further advance McClancy’s extensive athletic programs, which promote sportsmanship among our students and help them grow in self-discipline in mind, body and spirit. The addition of this new complex also makes us the ONLY Catholic High School in Brooklyn-Queens to have state-of-the-art baseball, softball, soccer and track fields on our campus. This will help raise more awareness for our athletic programs, support recruiting and admissions efforts and allow us to host larger sporting events, all of which will significantly benefit the McClancy community. The project is scheduled to begin in June 2021, and is planned to be completed and ready for use in October 2021!

“McClancy has always been a special place for me. Whether in the classroom or outside of the classroom, the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and the entire McClancy staff enabled me to gain the critical skills and reinforced the important values that have guided me throughout my life and career. I am proud to be able pay it forward and hope this new athletic complex will help ‘Make a Difference’ in the lives of many students for years to come.”

Brother Robert Connolly, S.C.

The Brothers of the Sacred Heart could not be prouder of Monsignor McClancy High School class of 1977 graduate and American Express Chairman and CEO Stephen J. Squeri. He has been a longtime supporter of our school, serving as a Board Member for several years, personally funding the renovations of our student center and supporting families and students in times of need. Now, his latest personal contribution of $2.1 million, the largest donation in the school’s history, will entirely fund our new athletic facility, which will enable us to hold many events across multiple sports and raise awareness for our school’s athletic programs. Our motto is “The School That Makes a Difference,” and Steve has truly made a difference in the lives of so many members of the McClancy community.
