Baseball
Rich Matteo was born in South Ozone Park where he lived with his parents and three brothers, Anthony, Stephen and John (McClancy ’74). He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help baseball team as well as the South Ozone Park Dukes, where he excelled for over 12 years as a catcher. In 1968, Rick enrolled at McClancy High School. At McClancy, he played baseball for four years and was named MVP and selected as a member of the All-Queens Team. Rick’s fondest memory was his game-winning double which eliminated Archbishop Molloy from the CHSAA playoffs.
Rick received a college scholarship to play baseball at Biscayne College in Miami, Florida in 1972. In 1974, he accepted a full scholarship to Adelphi where he was named to the All-American Baseball Team. Rick continued his education and became a teacher and later a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine. He has been practicing for over 15 years in College Point, NY. He now resides in Syosset, Long Island with his wife Janet and their children, Andrea, Jordan, and Gabrielle. Rick is now a Little League coach for Jordan’s team.
