Nick Melito ’76

Baseball & Basketball

Nick Melito was raised in Maspeth, Queens where he attended St. Mary’s Winfield elementary school before enrolling in Msgr. McClancy in September of 1972. During his time at McClancy, Nick played both basketball and baseball during each of his four years. He was selected to the All Brooklyn-Queens teams in baseball and basketball. He made the All-Tournament team at the Elmira Basketball Tournament and was picked to play on the Brooklyn-Queens All-Star baseball team.

Upon graduating from McClancy, Nick accepted a baseball scholarship to New York Tech. At Tech, he was voted All-Conference and was named Outstanding Freshman Pitcher. Nick was Co-Captain during his junior and senior years and was voted First Team All Northeast during his senior year. His team won 27 consecutive games and hosted the regional playoffs. He finished his career tied for fourth in career wins.

Nick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. For six years, Nick taught Global Studies at Msgr. McClancy H.S. He has also been coaching Varsity baseball and Junior Varsity basketball and was named Coach of the year in 2003. In September 2004, he was named Assistant to the President at the school.

He still lives in Maspeth with his wife, Linda. Nick and Linda have two children, Michael and Jennifer, and two grandchildren, Victoria and Nicholas.
