Joseph Jacobino ’84

Track & Field

Joseph Gerard Jacobino was born and raised in Astoria where he attended St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School before entering Msgr. McClancy High School in 1980. He unsuccessfully tried out for McClancy’s elite Track and Field team as a freshman. He endured his own workouts and practices and made the team during the outdoor season. Joseph went on to win two individual Varsity City Championships in his junior and senior year. He was co-captain of the first  Varsity Track Championship team in the school’s history. He was ranked sixth in the nation going into his undefeated senior year.

Joseph also raised the bar academically and through his leadership, he was a member of the National Honor Society, a Class President, and a member of the Student Council. He was also President of the Mechanics and Carpentry clubs. In 1984, he graduated with honors.

Upon his graduation, Joseph received an academic scholarship to Manhattan College and majored in Electrical Engineering. In his second year at Manhattan, he was the Assistant Coach here at McClancy. At a track meet at Dartmouth College, he met the Head Coach of Iona College, who convinced Joseph to transfer to Iona. Joseph received an athletic scholarship and continued his academic and field events career. Joseph graduated from Iona with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance.

In 1995, Joseph received a coveted award which read “With gratitude for your knowledge, expertise, dedication, and faithful service to the McClancy Field Team”. These words sum up the devotion Joseph Jacobino has towards the McClancy community.
