Baseball – Basketball
John O’Neill was raised in Woodside where he attended St. Mary’s Help of Christians Elementary School before enrolling in McClancy in the fall of 1970. During his time at McClancy, John was a member of the Junior Varsity and Varsity baseball teams. All four of those teams had the opportunity to play in the Championship Game of the CHSAA City Playoffs. In addition to his prowess on the baseball diamond, John excelled as a guard on McClancy’s fine basketball teams of the early seventies.
Upon graduating from McClancy, John was invited to several Major League Baseball team tryouts (including the Mets, Dodgers, and Pirates). He decided, instead of pursuing baseball, to accept a four year basketball scholarship to St. Francis College in Brooklyn (one of three college scholarships he was offered).
John played basketball for three years for St. Francis until an ankle injury sidelined him in his senior year. Upon graduating from St. Francis in 1978, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. He is currently the General manager of a large manufacturing company in Franklin, Massachusetts where he lives with his wife, son, and two daughters. JHohn continues to play an active role in sports by coaching youth baseball, basketball, and softball. He is one of the most requested and respected coaches in the leagues in which he participates.
