James Monastar ’67

Jim Monastar is currently a resident of New Port Richey, Florida. He has lived in Florida since 1982. Jim was a member of the 1964 Outdoor Junior/Midget City Championship team and the 1966 Varsity team that placed third in the Indoor City Championships.

After graduating McClancy in 1967, Jim attended Ohio University for a short time then entered the United States Navy. He returned to college, first attending Queensboro Community College, and then Queens College. After college, Jim moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he worked as Controller for a whole sale music record distributor. He continued to work in the accounting field when he moved to Florida until he decided to go out on his own and purchased a vertical blind business in 2003.

While at Msgr. McClancy, Jim held six varsity school records in the indoor and outdoor high jump, indoor 60yd. high hurdles, outdoor 120yd. high hurdles, 180 yd. low hurdles and the triple jump. He also held the freshman high jump and shot put records.

Jim won the 1966 Indoor City Championship high jump and also placed fifth in the 60 yd. high hurdles at that meet. He placed third in the Outdoor city Championship high jump. The next year, he placed second at the Indoor City Championship in the high jump, won the Private School Championship high jump and set a New York Relays high jump record.

Jim is married to his wife of eleven years, Cindy and has a step-daughter, Jennifer.
