Frank P. Bruno grew up in Astoria and graduated from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School prior to attending Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School.
Frank graduated from McClancy in 1970 and was Valedictorian of his class and President of the Student Council in his senior year. He received a B.A., summa cum laude, from Columbia College in 1974 with a concentration in English literature, an M.B.A. with honors from Columbia Business School in 1976 with concentrations in Accounting and Finance, and a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1979. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1980.
After law school, Frank commenced his legal career in New York City at the firm then known as Brown, Wood, Ivey, Mitchell & Petty, which after a merger eventually became the New York office of the international law firm Sidley Austin LLP. He practiced securities law at the firm for over 41 years, 33 years as a partner, retiring at the end of 2020. Frank’s clients included investment companies and their boards of directors, investment advisers, investment banks and brokerage firms. He served for many years as a member and chairman of the firm’s hiring committee and was a member of the firm’s opinion committee. Outside of firm commitments, he served as a member of the New York City Bar Association’s Investment Company Act Sub-Committee and spoke at numerous conferences on investment company legal issues.
Frank and his wife of nearly 48 years, Diane, live in Bronxville, New York where they are long-time members of St. Joseph’s Church. Their two daughters, Avery and Emily, who also attended Catholic high school, and their husbands, and five grandchildren live nearby. Frank enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis, hiking, reading and traveling.
