Eric Sampfl ’80

Baseball

Eric Stampfl was born in Astoria and attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School. While at McClancy, Eric excelled in baseball where he was a City All-Star, with a 90 mph fastball.

He decided to attend St. John’s University on an athletic scholarship where he pitched with Frank Viola and John Franco. He was drafted his junior year, 1983, by the New York Mets in the 7th round of the Major League Baseball draft. He played 3 years in the Mets minor league system where he was plagued by arm injuries.

In 1986, Eric resigned with the Mets and took a job at Republic National Bank as a Management Trainee. During that time, he completes his BS in Finance. He later took a job with a recruitment firm in the city.

Eric now runs his own company, Morgan Stampfl Inc. located in midtown Manhattan, where he recruits top Wall Street executives in the financial services industry. He resides in Dix Hill, Long Island with his wife Heather and their three children Eric, Luke, and Jessica. He spends most of his free time coaching Little League in Huntington.
