Dennis Burke ’72

Basketball & Baseball

Dennis was raised in Astoria, Queens where he attended St. Joseph Elementary School before enrolling in McClancy in the fall of 1968. As a four-year baseball and basketball star at McClancy, Dennis achieved Second-Team All-City honors in basketball and All-Brooklyn/Queens honors in baseball.

Upon graduating from McClancy, Dennis received a four year athletic scholarship to play basketball and baseball at Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He hit .432 his senior year for the Pioneers which earned him a tryout with the Yankees. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Dennis coached his son’s AAU baseball team which won the National Championship for eleven year-olds in 1997.

Dennis’ work career began in 1976. He served as the Operations Manager for Atlanta and South Florida regional offices of Merrill Lynch for thirteen years. In 1989, Dennis became a financial consultant for Merrill and assumed the duties of Compliance Manager in the Orlando, Florida district office. Recognizing his velue to the industry, Paine Weber lured Dennis away from Merrill in 1993. For five years, he served as Paine Webber’s District Compliance Manager in the South Florida Region. In 1999, Dennis left Paine Webber to become an independent financial advisor and Executive Sales Associate for Classic Nissan/Mazda.

Dennis passed away suddenly on March 2nd, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Alice and their two children, Bridget and Timothy.
