Coach Kent Night at Alumni Basketball Day

On Saturday, January 6th, we honored our longtime Varsity Basketball Coach, Donald Kent during our Alumni Basketball Day that included our first ever all girl’s alumni game.
Coach Kent came to Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School in September of 1982 to teach Physical Education and Health. He was appointed Varsity Basketball Coach by Principal, Brother James O’Grady, sc and Athletic Director, Mr. Charles O’Donnell, who are fellow members of the McClancy and CHSAA Hall of Fames.
He remained a fixture on the McClancy sidelines until the conclusion of the 2014 season, when he stepped away. During his tenure he had many players go on to play at the highest levels of basketball across the globe. Numerous college and professional players honed their craft under his tutelage. His teams competed in 4 Final Fours including the 1990 Catholic City and State Championship victory and a city championship appearance in 1993. Coach Kent was recognized by the Daily News, New York Post, The Tablet and the CHSAA as Coach of the Year numerous times. Coach Kent, always the gentlemen, received multiple Sportsmanship Awards from the league and referee association. A true example of the man he is! He had over 400 wins as a Varsity Head Basketball Coach in the CHSAA, 343 of which were with McClancy, making him the All-time winningest Coach in School History.
Coach Kent’s 37 years at the helm of the McClancy basketball program has cemented his status as a legend in the CHSAA and the NYC basketball community. After all of his coaching accomplishments and years of dedicated service to the McClancy community, we thought it was appropriate to have his name grace our gym floor.
