Brother Joseph Holthaus was born in Syracuse, NY on August 22, 1944, into a military family. After graduating from high school in 1962, he entered the Brothers of the Sacred Heart at the House of Formation in Spring Hill, AL. He completed his novitiate training in Belvidere, NJ, making first profession on August 15, 1964, and Final Profession on August 15, 1970.
Brother Joseph received a B.A. in Secondary Education from Spring Hill College, Mobile, AL in 1970 and an M.A. in English from Notre Dame University in 1975.
Brother Joseph’s ministry assignments has included classroom teacher, Prefect, Dean of Students, Principal, President, and Marketing in schools of the former NY Province, as well postulant master, novice teacher, and discernment coordinator. He is currently Dean at St. Columba’s College in St. Abans, England.
Brother Joseph has served in various province leadership roles, including two terms as Provincial of the New York Province. He is currently a Provincial Councilor for the Province of the United States.
