It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Brother Donald Sukanek into eternal life.
Brother Donald Sukanek was an essential part of the McClancy experience. Seemingly no student left this school without getting to know Brother Donald. He recently celebrated 50 years as a Brother of the Sacred Heart. Brother Donald first met and was taught by Brothers of the Sacred Heart as a high school student. He was moved by their character and faith and joined the Order soon after.
Brother spent most of his ministry at McClancy, as a vibrant teacher of English and Religion as well as moderator of various activities through the years. Brother was an active member of the Province, having served as provincial of the former New York Province and more recently as a member of the Provincial Council. Just prior to his departure from McClancy, Brother served as Campus Minister; leading Mission Trips, organizing school liturgies, and enriching the spiritual lives of both faculty and students.
Since leaving McClancy, Brother had been serving as Master of Novices for postulants into the Brothers of the Sacred Heart community. Additionally, he also served as a member of the Provincial Council.
As Provincial Brother Ronald Hingle stated, “Most importantly, Brother Donald was a kind and compassionate man who took the call to live the life of Jesus, meek and humble of heart, to his own heart! He will be sorely missed.”
Let us pray. In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May Brother Donald’s soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Dearest Jesus, who wept at the death of your friend and taught that they who mourn shall be comforted, grant us the comfort of your presence in our loss. Be with the Sukanek family, all of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and the members of our school community enriched by having the opportunity to have gotten to know Brother Donald in this life. All this we ask through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
Ametur Cor Jesu; Ametur Cor Mariae.
