Bob Kelly ’62

Baseball

Bob Kelly, a long time resident of Astoria, graduated from McClancy in 1962. Bob starred on the pitcher’s mound for the Crusaders and had his best seasons in his Junior and Senior years. In 1961, he was named team Most Valuable Player and in 1962, he was named second-team All-City. Bob not only excelled on the field but in the classroom as well. In his Senior year, he was named “Baseball Student Athlete”. Upon graduating, Bob received several full and partial scholarships to various schools, including Saint John’s and Fordham Universities.

Bob stayed involved in baseball after his playing days. He spent time coaching in the highly successful baseball program at Saint Joseph’s, Astoria where he was named manager of the year in 1973. Bob is still very active in the community. In addition to his support of McClancy, he is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Queensborough Elks.
